Blowing through summer

We hope you are having a wonderful summer. It seems to be whizzing by so fast. I have yet to get to the beach, which is my go-to summer destination, but we are enjoying our pool immensely. 

This summer is super busy with Powell Brower Interiors.  We have many new projects scheduled including a dining room, whole office (to open mid Septmember) and a living room/ kitchen client.

So please excuse us while we take a back seat to blogging, but we will post progress pics.  Here's a great antique Kilim rug we found for our dining room client to spearhead her design plan.  I found a new great local rug purveyor in Marshall, VA who only sells vintage, authentic one-of-a-kind carpets.

...changing your textiles!

Do you want a different look for summer with minimal cost and effort? 

It can be as simple as adding new draperies, pillows and throws. Let's say you have a neutral couch, or, as in the case of a recent client, a brown leather sofa (which is suddenly looking too heavy in the summer light and climate).

Let's look at a few tips that can change your look from winter to summer. 

Your home will look fresh and well loved if you change it up a bit. Have any of you lightened up for summer?

Slow down, you're movin' too fast...

It is in the upper 70's today and the same is forecast for the weekend. I don't know about you, but it seems like summer is flying by way too fast. I just rode my bike at 9pm and it was still light out. I love it.

the 'goodbye summer' blues

I really can't stand the thought of summer ending!  All the wonderful delicious fragrant things of this season will be gone until next year.  I love the local farmer's market, the smell of ripening fruit on the counter, having my morning coffee out by the pool,  beautiful sunsets, long days full of hot sunshine, trips to the beach where you can wear your bathing suit all day everyday. 

I feel the threat of fall already in the air; although that is a wonderful time of year here in Virginia, when the humidity goes away and you need a light sweater.

I'm off to enjoy a long weekend with my partner in crime and the rest of our family at Bethany Beach!!
