Herringbone everything else

Friday I posted about Herringbone Brick, which I love.  There are applications of this pattern that I adore in material other than brick.  I guess it is a more sophisticated version of "chevron" which has been so trendy in the literal sense. But herringbone is timeless, aka, my mom used it, so that means it's timeless! I loved the herringbone wool she used in her hand made suits, and very tailored look she wore.

What is "herringbone"? It comes from the pattern that resembles the skeleton of a herring fish.(1)  It is not a chevron, but is different in that the V pattern is reversed at the break, like a broken zig zag. Here is a classic example:

  17. Fabulous! All of it! As an owner of the herringbone Toms... These ones stretched easier than any of the other Toms I own... Absolutely darling, but i would err on the side of smaller if choosing between sizes!
