Weekend puppy update

I hope you all are having a great weekend. My daylilies are blooming so I want to pass their beauty on to you!

Gibbs is doing great this week after castration on Tuesday, poor guy.  He never even knew he had surgery, or stitches..life is as usual for lil' Gibbs. Weighing in at 62 lbs on the vet's scale he is really getting big, but is still the sweetest most loyal dog we know. The instructions say to keep him quiet for 10-14 days. Hah! That is impossible for a golden pup.

The rain this week helped to keep him inside and quiet although he is bored stiff. He got some new chew toys that he demolished already.  He helped me clean the pool today and enjoyed spending the whole day outside. ( He hasn't been back in the pool since last week's incident- our pool pump broke, so it is still green, but fixed and on it's way to clearing!)  Nicky sunned himself as well.

Have a great day, and we thank you for stopping by.  The winner of our candle giveaway will be announced Monday morning!

Gibbs and Pea Soup

If you own an in-ground pool, when you take off your mesh cover for the season you often get pool water that looks like this (pretty disappointing).

Gibbs thought is looked like heaven.

(Pretty pantone emerald green: color of the year?)

It will take a week and several hundred dollars worth of chemicals to get it clear and swimmable.
We know Gibbs loves to drink water and play in the hose, but we did not know how he would react to the opening of the pool.

No biggie, we just let him out in the back yard as usual and we'll give him a big NO at the steps and watch him like a hawk; turned our backs for ONE HOT MINUTE, and bam, he was swimming in the pool.

One smelly dog later and a bath in coconut pet shampoo, the wet dog emerges in the evening, too chilly in the air conditioning for him to dry indoors so we sit outside for hours (with glasses of wine) to let him air dry.

It's a good thing he's cute, and an innocent puppy, cause after this episode, he will have to lay some smack down on him about pool rules.
Check back to see if that works.

I didn't get a photo of him out of the pool, so let your imaginations and your sense of smell run wild.
Anyway, god love the little boy, cause this week he goes to the vet to get neutered! It's true what they say about pups 6-9 months; they are rowdy teenagers, full of themselves and hormones, and defiant.

Have a great Sunday friends, and let's see if Gibbs got the message last night about no swimming in the pool. (We will teach him only to come in when invited.)
Check back to see if that works.

Weekend puppy update- 6 months old

Gibbs is busy these days

I hope you have an animal in your life to bring you joy, because their expressions, their personalities can keep you laughing and brighten any day.  Have a wonderful Memorial Day holiday, and thank you to all those that serve our great country! God bless the USA!

Weekend puppy update

Gibbs THE MAN, not so much a little boy, right now is 5 1/2 months. He is maturing in looks, but is still goofy as heck.  This week he was still 'off his feed' which lasted about 5 days, but he started eating normally about Wednesday.  He is fine now, but always on the hunt for something nasty to put in his mouth...we have to watch him like a hawk. He will eat anything!

We were invited to  dinner with some of my best friends from high school this week.  I had said to my hubby that I would love to show our new pup to my friends, when the next email said 'bring Gibbs'! My friend has a 16 month old black lab named OLIVE (I love that) and so the meeting went like this...

    non-stop

 for about 3 hours.

It was really adorable. Gibbs was so happy to have a youthful dog to play with who matched his size and energy level.  Nicky and Wilma are just too grumpy and disgusted at this puppy.  Now Seamus that's another story.  Gibbs and Bethany's bulldog pup go at it like it's feeding time at the zoo. They really chew face and rip and tear each other, so since we have to preserve Seamy's beauty for his dog show career, they are quarantined from off leash play currently.

Thus begins Gibbs'  love affair with Olive...to be continued.

Have a beautiful day.

weekend puppy update

Gibbs is 5 months old! He has legs down to my shins when I try to pick him up.  That's not gonna happen too much longer.  Did I mention we have a growth chart on my son's door frame where I used to mark the kids? (This is what empty nesters do when the kids are gone..hahaha.)  He grew and inch and 1/2 this week! I can't get him on a scale to weigh him, even when I try to hold him with me, he's just too wiggly. We carry 50 lb. feed bags for the horses, so my best guess is he weighs the same as a bag of horse feed!

Getting a little ridiculous, but he's still so puppy-ish and sweet and goofy and all legs! His legs look like a jack rabbit!

Hope you all are having a wonderful Sunday.  We are working in the yard again and soaking up this great weather.

Weekend Puppy Update

Bethany and I took our 4 dogs on a 3 mile walk in this gorgeous weather on Saturday.  It was glorious and our own dog parade! There was no way either of us could take a picture with both hands holding leashes. It was fun, though. The "old folks"Wilma(4) and Nicky(5) had to be taken home for lack of energy, and the two puppies, Gibbs, now 19 weeks, and Seamus, 8 months, forged on without hesitation.

 FINALLY, spring is happening!

When these 2 puppy cousins get together it is a constant wrestling match.  It's much better if Seamus is on top, that way Gibbs's needle teeth don't tear those precious little lamp ears of Seamus's.

 Nicky looking on disgustedly....

Wilma and Mort the cat attempt at play.

Do you remember just Jan.13th when we got Gibbs home (at 12 lbs), he was this little?

Here's that same table....(weighing in today at 49 lbs.)

Hope you're enjoying your Sunday, we sure are!

Weekend puppy update

"Sir Gibbs" we registered him as (with the American Kennel Club) this week.  His father is Sir Mack Dodd, so we followed suit.  We had snow on Monday last week and he was more thrilled than I.

I came in the kitchen one day and there he sat, right in the window. I had to laugh and grab my camera before I beat his cute little arse...

He thinks he's a cat.

His coat is getting longer and more curly. He is 17 weeks old.

Our yard is full of half-chewed sticks now. He is giving new meaning to Spring Cleanup. I'm going to have to sacrifice our pool yard to puppyhood this spring and summer. He has pulled landscape fabric out from under the mulch and been digging. :(  He is very interested in birds and planes and is always looking up!

He loves to play ball with Michael.

I hope you're getting your puppy fix cause Im getting mine everyday! As much as he is growing so tall and filling out, he is as goofy and clumsy as can be right now.  Have a lovely FUN Sunday.

Nancy

Weekend Puppy Update-

A week in the life of a golden retriever puppy.  It's been alternating rain, wind and sunshine. As I mentioned he loves to bounce on the pool cover to get wet..

Mort, the cat, is looking on saying "what the heck are you doing?"

And at 16 weeks he is starting to lose his baby teeth. I'm excited those little needles will be gone.

A highlight Saturday was his nose to nose introduction to "Thomas" my 11 hand, 13 year old Welsh pony. Bethany rescued him when she was a vet tech for our horse vet 10 years ago. She nursed him back to health for 3 months and brought him home to me Christmas eve. What a surprise, I had NO idea!  The trailer ride was horrendous and another story for another time!  I was so proud of my animal kingdom today when a 400 lb. pony and a 40 lb. puppy were as gentle as two little babies as they explored each other.

This is the shot! (Wish it wasn't so ugly out there..can't wait for spring!)

Here is Bethany's  handsome 18 yr. old Thoroughbred named "Willie":

Gibbs learning barn etiquette.

Thomas is saying "Have a nice Sunday"  "give me some treats!"
