Gibbs and Pea Soup

If you own an in-ground pool, when you take off your mesh cover for the season you often get pool water that looks like this (pretty disappointing).

Gibbs thought is looked like heaven.

(Pretty pantone emerald green: color of the year?)

It will take a week and several hundred dollars worth of chemicals to get it clear and swimmable.
We know Gibbs loves to drink water and play in the hose, but we did not know how he would react to the opening of the pool.

No biggie, we just let him out in the back yard as usual and we'll give him a big NO at the steps and watch him like a hawk; turned our backs for ONE HOT MINUTE, and bam, he was swimming in the pool.

One smelly dog later and a bath in coconut pet shampoo, the wet dog emerges in the evening, too chilly in the air conditioning for him to dry indoors so we sit outside for hours (with glasses of wine) to let him air dry.

It's a good thing he's cute, and an innocent puppy, cause after this episode, he will have to lay some smack down on him about pool rules.
Check back to see if that works.

I didn't get a photo of him out of the pool, so let your imaginations and your sense of smell run wild.
Anyway, god love the little boy, cause this week he goes to the vet to get neutered! It's true what they say about pups 6-9 months; they are rowdy teenagers, full of themselves and hormones, and defiant.

Have a great Sunday friends, and let's see if Gibbs got the message last night about no swimming in the pool. (We will teach him only to come in when invited.)
Check back to see if that works.

  4. Tell Gibbs his trip to the vet is punishment for his swim.

  6. Gibbs - cute as usual! A few years ago our pool guy told us to lift up the mesh cover in a few places and pour in a few gallons of clorox 2 or 3 times in the month before he would come to open the pool. Works like a charm - our pool goes from gross to clear in about 1 day. Interestingly enough - he used to live in the house next door to us as a kid. His mom was our neighbor until she passed away a few years ago.

  7. p.s - our pool is plastered, don't know if yours is plastered or a liner. Just wanted to mention that in case it makes a difference. If you want, I could ask Dean sometime.s

  8. Living in Texas, we don't cover our pool. We can heat it and pretty much use it year round. It's a saltwater pool. Would it be alright if Gibbs came over and showed our dogs all the fun they are missing? They don't like the water. Bruce is terrified of the ocean, too. The goldens across the street swam all day, everyday.
They were so funny in the water. Hope his surgery goes well...Bruce sends his condolences!

  11. Who doesn't love Gibbs? One the other hand, having a lab...who also likes water and mud, I know that smell! They are adorable though so who can be mad for long, especially when sipping wine;)

  12. Nancy this is so funny! I have not one ...but TWO dogs (english springers) that are constantly in water and muddy so I know the (wet and stinky) dog drill! I grew up in Southern CA where we all had pools in our yard. Since moving to WA state, no one has them.. and most swim clubs have pools inside. I do recall the pain it was cleaning them.. ya have to take the good with the bad on this one though. Pools are so fun in the summer :)

  14. Oh that Gibbs! Goldens love the water don't they?!! Rosie actually went swimming yesterday with us at the neighbor's pool with their Lab. It took her forever to dry off - lovely wet dog smell! So poor Gibbs is off to the vet this week?...he's growing up! Have a wonderful week!

  16. What a magnificent view from that pool Nancy! Just wow... beautiful.
My uncle had a white lab who was prone to jumping into the Koi pond everyday just before he walked through the door from work so that he would have to bathe her. Every evening she'd emerge smelly with a tint of green on her coat. Your adventure with Gibbs reminded me of that. Golden's and Labs sure do love their water.
