This week was the fun one, where an application of color made this room come alive! I absolutely love the way this Benjamin Moore's Gunmetal( 1602) color looks with the white trim. I had to paint before the cabinets go up, so it took 2 coats for best coverage.
( yes, that is green astro turf in my husband's man cave. He was a high school football coach for 40 years.)
It has a washboard side to it and my Shih Tzu fits in it. My golden retriever is going to have to go in the bathtub!
SNAG...the washing machine has been leaking on the floor, so we had a repairman in to fix it and found out we bought it in 1996. No thank you on a $300.00 repair! So we had to purchase a new machine. I bought a Speed Queen for $700.00. I took the advice of my repairman who said all those fancy front loaders and computer panels have lots of expensive repair problems, and I do alot of heavy washing (i.e. horse blankets) so I'm happy to go with a heavy duty tried and true commercial brand.)
The center white faucet I ordered online was too clunky and massive, so I returned it in favor of a chrome single faucet. I had the plumber in to connect the sink and faucet and it is fully operational! My husband needs to finish the base cabinet ( install face frame, mount the doors, secure the hamper on the back wall with a chain so it doesn't fall forward too far).
Next is to install the upper cabinets and figure out the window treatment, install a new light fixture and do a custom treatment on the walls...oh, and the fun part: hardware, accessories and staging.I need to paint and organize the closet in there as well. Can't wait!
Good luck to all my challengers who are:
Please hop over to see their progress and cheer them on with me! See you next Wednesday!( or hopefully sooner!)
Thanks for your continued support everyone!
Nancy
P.S. I have jury duty today so I will have to check in and comment tonight1
I love that wall color. What a difference. The Astro Turf needs lines on it, like a real football fiels :). Bummer about the washing machine.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the wall color against that white trim!
ReplyDeleteI love everything so far. Sorry that you have jury duty today.
ReplyDeleteLove that wall color!!!
ReplyDeleteWhoa, it's going to be fabulous, LOVE the dark color and stained counter top!
ReplyDeleteIt's looking great! Kind of obsessed with the dark walls!
ReplyDeletehi Nancy! you're doing a great job. We're in the planning stages of redoing our laundry room as well. I noticed that you put a piece of plywood for your countertop. I asked my handyman/contractor to do that and he recommended not and is trying to sell me on a laminate/formica countertop option which I honestly don't love esthetically or price wise. He says the humidity and washing things by hand near it or placing moist items on it will eventually ruin the wood. Centsational girl used plywood also in her powder room and used a good sealant or something to prevent water damage. How is the wood countertop working for you? What did you use to seal it? I would love to hear your thoughts.
ReplyDeleteYael, I don't have your email so I hope you get this. We used solid 1" oak boards and after finishing them to a smooth finish we polyurethaned it with many coats, which I can repeat in a few years if I see the finish wearing off. The good thing about not using plywood is I can resand it and refinish it in the future. Wooden counters, and butcher block counters are widely used, so don't be afraid! I haven't used it yet but my brother uses a wood counter in his bathroom vanity and never had a minutes problem with it. If you love it, DO IT!

Everything is looking good Nancy! I do love the color you chose, the white just pops out! And I adore your wooden countertop!!! Glad you answered the question I was thinking too (yael phrased it for me better)!

ReplyDeleteastro turf!! Hilarious. Love the changes so far- wall color, wood counter... looking great. And the laundry cab is so nice.
ReplyDeleteI really like the wall color you chose, it really makes it look updated. My favorite part is going to be the light fixture. I love lighting.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I had no idea all the front loading washers were so prone to breaking! I'm going to keep this in mind when our front loading washer goes caput. I'm pretty sure it will be soon as it makes a terribly frightening noise when we do the wash.
Ah Jury Duty ... hope you get "Free" soon!!! Love the GunMetal ... can't wait to see more!! xo
