The One Room Challenge is back! The Powell Brower team has done a few of these before and we are happy to join in the challenge again for the next 6 weeks. We are honored to be among 20 of our favorite design bloggers and wish everyone luck! Thanks Linda, of My Crafty Home Life, for organizing this and to Jennifer of The Pink Pagoda for providing our graphic buttons!
My dated laundry room is the subject this go-round. You're going to love these before pictures.
While it's not totally terrible, it is about 10 years past its prime, so I aim to bring it up to date on a budget.
My makeover includes:
new laundry room sink and faucet
new butcher-block countertop and lower base cabinetry
new upper cabinets
repaint the trim and walls,
new light fixture
window treatment
Unfortunately, the tile and the existing washer and dryer are staying. I've got my work cut out for me to zhush this room enough so you forget about them!
So first I started pinning inspiration photos:
Then I began playing with some e-Boards:
I think Bethany can agree, I'm my own worst client! I like so many things and looks, I am having a terrible time deciding on one final plan.
My husband has been working on building the cabinetry out of cabinet-grade birch for months now. I waiver between staining them and painting them white!
Stained and sealed and cut-out ready for the sink mount:
So this is all for week one! Next I am going to paint the walls, so join us next Wednesday for Week 2's update on our progress! Below are the links to the participating blogs. I hope you follow us all for the next 6 weeks to see the progress of our rooms!

#2 ALL THE WAY!!! Love the charcoal paint and that runner and all the other accessories! So fun!
ReplyDeleteDitto Julia! #2! I love the window detail in this one!! The cabinets your husband is making are beautiful!!! xo
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you do!
ReplyDeleteI love a good team effort! I would have a difficult time deciding direct too given your design boards so I can't wait to see where this is going Nancy!
ReplyDeleteI am planning a laundry room makeover in my own home next, so very excited to follow this.
ReplyDeleteI adore the second one! I love all your ideas and can't wait to see how it turns out. I have been looking over paint swatches to change my laundry room color too. The clock I have in there just broke and now I am afraid it will snowball into more than just replacing a clock!

What a project!! Love that you're going all out! I would choose two as well because I think it will make a big impact! Can't wait to see how it evolves!
ReplyDeleteLove the direction you are going. The second board is my favourite! Can't wait to see how you finish of the space, it will look amazing like all the other spaces!
ReplyDeleteFun project! I think sprucing up this room will be so gratifying since you use it all the time. So nice that you have those windows in there, and nice bones about the space. Love your inspiration boards, especially the one with the dark wall color!!! Look forward to following along!
ReplyDeleteRight on sister! I love the direction with all that yummy stained wood. The second board is so light and bright- perfect for a laundry room! Can't wait for the next update!
ReplyDeleteYour husband does amazing wood work. Snaps to him for that. I did notice that all of your inspiration pictures are front loaders. I'm really want to see how you will install that counter over them?
ReplyDeleteAhhh the laundry room. such a great blank canvas. can't wait to see all kinds of pretty in there when you're done! Love your inspirations
ReplyDeletei can't wait to see what you come up with! so excited to see this progression! ya'll are going to do great! xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteLove option two! The charcoal paint will make the white trim (and your whites!) look clean and crisp. Silly question, but when touching up your window trims, did you sand the existing white paint or just have at it?? I have a few windows that need so TLC but have been neglected because of my hate of sand paper
ReplyDeleteI love these ORCs Nancy...so fun to watch the transformations! Can't wait to see your progress each week!
ReplyDeleteOh, to have a pretty laundry room, what a treat this will be! LOVE the charcoal walls and La Fiorentina!!
ReplyDeleteYou will be SOOO happy!! I am excited to watch the progress!! xo, Kathleen
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see how it turns out! I'm sure it will be fab
ReplyDeleteOh how fun to get a new laundry room! Mine is in the dark and dreary basement :( Really loving laundry room 2!
ReplyDeleteI say #2 all the way. Your countertops are beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteLove where you are headed! I would love a true laundry room (ours is part of a bathroom). Can't wait to see!
ReplyDeleteLAUNDRY ROOM....good for you. We will never get to ours!
ReplyDeleteWOW...already great progress!!! I LOVE the countertop idea....socks and other clothes always fall behind our washer and dryer...I am afraid of what's back there...I'd better clean it out though. Can't wait to follow your progress.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you do. I love a pretty laundry room! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! I can't wait to see how you work your magic.
ReplyDeleteI love how we all describe our "befores". I seriously have the world's ugliest laundry room. It's in a little alcove between my garage and my basement. It's going to feel worse about itself after your makeover is done.

You've got no place to go but up! Such a blank canvas and awesome inspiration, this is a space I'm sure everyone can relate to- I cant wait to see it finished!!!
ReplyDeleteNancy I love the hands on your husband has in this project. It is so nice to have a handy partner. I love #2, no surprise there, love the black and white stripes in the room, fresh white always looks so clean in any room!! This will be fun to see your progress and kudos to you for painting. I am such a mess with paint, my husband won't allow me to paint, long story cosisting of stepping in the paint pan!Lets just say, I AM a mess!!

I LOVE all of the space you've got and the window is wonderful! Laundry isn't my favorite so I think it's great to have a laundry room that you love! With the work that you and Bethany do, it's going to fantastic. I can't wait to see!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see this! My laundry room is a sty ......it would have been the ORC that lasted 6 months if I had started on that space :) I am sure it will look wonderful!
ReplyDeleteso excited for you! I'm loving your 2nd mood board though, but I know how things can change, so good luck Nancy!!!!Will be following your progress closely! :-)
ReplyDeleteSo nice your husband is able to make your cabinetry...it's beautiful! You had me laughing about how you want to paint the rest of your house. I'm glad I'm not alone! one project always leads to another. Can't wait to follow along. Best, Lauren

Ooo what a handy hubby. That countertop looks great! I say paint the cabs. Look forward to seeing your rug choice.
ReplyDeleteI love the sink in between the washer and dryer! I am looking forward to seeing the progress!
ReplyDeletewhoa, this will be fun to follow!! I need some inspiration for my laundry room! Janell
ReplyDeleteI love that you are doing a laundry room!! Your runner ideas are gorge!
ReplyDeleteI dream of redoing my laundry room. I have no window, though, so good lighting is key. I love the dark wall idea with the white cabinets. I do also think the patterns you have incorporated in your boards will look amazing, whatever you decided. Look forward to seeing more. And yes, once you starting making over one space, the adjoining spaces look dated and are screaming for updates, too!
ReplyDeleteLove the #2 design, I am sure it would look fabulous in the end. Looking forward to see more!
