E designs lately

We've done a few kitchen E-Design plans lately we'd like to share.

Powell Brower Interiors

The first scenario is a bachelor who wants an updated but slightly masculine look to his kitchen makeover in his log cabin.  These are the inspiration photos we shared with him:

The second scenario is a 1930's craftsman home with a 1950's kitchen addition made out of an attached screen porch.  Time for new cabinets, raised ceilings, combining the mudroom and kitchen space by demo-ing a wall between the two, and adding new flooring.   She loves subway tile and open shelves.

Surprisingly these two clients have wish lists similar in nature: painted cabinets, wood elements, black, grey and white colors, updated lighting and fixtures.  Here are some product recommendations for each of them.

There are so many things we love about each of these.  The clients now have a road map to follow as they tackle these projects on their own.

Whats on Your Walls?

Today we welcome Kristy and Beth from the beautiful blog Design Chic! They are a mother daughter duo like us and we have long been followers of their good taste and southern charm. Let's see what they have on their walls!

Thanks so much, Bethany and Nancy, for inviting us to your beautiful blog. We are so pleased and flattered to be able to share with your readers! 

All of these images are from the beach house we are in the process of remodeling together in Beaufort, NC. We all know that art can make or break a room, so we were thrilled to find what we thought were some perfect pieces. We took that sage, age-old advice and bought pieces we loved, then found a place for them, not the other way around. And, believe it or not, it worked! 

We adore the corals and seaweeds painted by Kerri Shipp - just what we had envisioned at the foot of the stairs. (Hmmm.... We had had a party the night before and suspect someone bumped that middle row picture a bit!)

These three dimensional fish from Phillips Collection are the perfect fit over the awkward but character-filled mirror that's a part of the original living room mantle.

The colors of the painting from Kerry Steele are ideal for the upstairs master bedroom.

This was the first art that we bought for the beach house, way before a color scheme was even a thought. We think it's perfect in this space and brings the colors together seamlessly. 

One of our favorite blog friends, Kendall Boggs, painted this diptych and we had to have it for the beach house - the colors are yummy over the mantle in the entrance and we think it must be one of those old woman/young girl things. Women always see a bride and groom in "Black Tie Affair" and men always think it's a painting of fishing lures... Go figure!

Lunching with Loi

Could the day have been any more perfect?

Bethany and I went to the home of Loi and Tom from Tone on Tone Antiques along with our friend Kerry Steele, from Design du Monde, for a fabulous luncheon.

Of course the tour of his home did not disappoint.  Are you kidding? It was a museum, perfection at every turn. Loi is a master designer, curator and host. He and Tom have remodeled their home inside and out to reflect the most beautiful architecture, home to their treasures and their magnificent gardens. I felt like we were on hallowed ground.

 These photos (taken by Nancy) hardly do his beautiful home justice.  Their home has been professionally photographed and featured many times, so take this novice's angle with a grain bucket of salt at what is behind the scene of Tone on Tone.

I hope you enjoyed a  sneak peak into Loi and Tom's home. We sure did. We love our blogging community!

Beach Bums

Our family has been going to Bethany Beach, Delaware since my husband's grandfather built a cinderblock cottage in the 1950's.  Each of his three children have since built their own houses bay-side and our family's house is one of our favorite places to be each summer.

We had the great fortune to spend this past weekend there - an even more rare opportunity that Bethany and I (and her hubs) got to go together!   The Mister opted to take care of our 2 horses, 2 cats and 2 dogs for us so we could have a mini-vacation.  We had grandiose plans of shopping and visiting our favorite haunts, but the weather put a damper on our plans. It was 108 degrees on Saturday as we drove around, too hot even to shop!  And though we are die hard beach-goers, the ocean was barely refreshing and the walk in the blazing sand to the sea was unbearable. 

After 2 hours we felt sick from the sun and napped and lazed the rest of the day in the A/C.  I rarely remember it ever being too hot to enough the ocean!

Our skin looks 1000 years old in this sun but this was the only pic left of 'us' after Instagram froze up.

We did manage to frequent some of our favorites: Beach Plum Antiques (below), Carolina Street and the Pottery Place.  

We were ever intrigued with the architecture of the homes and charm of the Northeastern style beach homes and took many pictures of the cottages we love and remind us of our favorite beach.

We had a blast and we are already aching to go back.  Water is the best cure for anything.  How was your weekend? Come across anything inspiring?
