BFF MCM

My best friend recently enlisted our help to zhush her 40's California rancher up.  She wants to incorporate mid-century elements to work with the contemporary bones of the house while utilizing her existing traditional furniture.  Since MCM is something people have a very polarized reaction to, you either like it or you don't, she's just starting to get her feet wet in that pool.  Do I hear accessories calling our names?

Sprinkling in accessories are the best way to sport some modern elements without looking like a Mad Men set. Her words exactly on what she didn't want.  Accessories won't break so they ease you into the commitment.

Since accessories and budget are the name of the game, we tried to find wallet-friendly picks to share.

Everything here (except the tables) is under $200!

I know, I'm obsessed with this coffee table lately. I mean 249 bones?  How could you not be.

I personally love shopping the accessories aisles at Target because I put 'em in my cart, along with my shredded cheddar cheese and I feel totally justified that it was all in a grocery run.

How do you take your MCM - bold cup or watered down?

Mid Century love - DWR

I had the pleasure of going into the Design Within Reach store recently in Bethesda, Maryland. I got to see authentic iconic pieces by Knoll, Saarinen, Bertoia, Milo Baugham, Herman Miller, Fritz Hansen and more!  I was so excited.

I grew up studying these designers as an studio art and art education major in college and coveted their original designs. There are so many copies and cheap reproductions these days, I was blown away in the presence of greatness! I don't think Bethany quite gets my fascination, but I know she appreciates and loves great design.  Here is a great overview of the chairs DWR carries:

I feel like these pieces are so relevant today and that they are timeless.  Do you agree?
