Hot architectural details

A beautiful addition to any home is the application of millwork  trim and moulding panels on walls, ceilings and framing built-ins and kitchens.

Our friend Christine Dovey of Bijou and Boheme is masterful at designing spaces with this premier touch. I sure could use her carpenter for a day, week or year! The next three images are her designs and is pretty much becoming her signature look.

I 've often dreamt of hand painting this look on a wall, but I  came across a great wallpaper alternative to this look from (the always fantastic) Anthropologie:

There's no substitution for a high end look with real millwork, but this is an idea you might ponder.

Even small touches like this trim on closet doors makes a huge impact like in this bedroom makeover by our dear friend Pam, from Simple Details.

Architectural details

You never get a second chance to make a first impression, right? The outside of our homes is as important as the inside.

My current labor of love involves spring yard cleanup, replacing plants that didn't make it over our harsh winter and building a pool yard fence with my husband, (we bit off way more than we can chew). Outdoor architectural details are always on my mind and I've got some of these ideas on my exterior wish list.

I'd love pergola awning's over my bedroom doors onto the deck, a phenomenal gate to our new fenced pool yard (must be dog secure- this one our Nicky could climb through) and custom made wooden garage doors (price of a new car).  What are you dreaming about for your house this spring?

Stairways to heaven

One reason I blog is to be inspired. This is about as elegant a staircase as I could ever imagine. I love the simplicity, the lines, the railings. It is a work of art.

There are many focal points going on in this stairwell, which has a very European feel to it and is equally as beautiful.

Another more contemporary staircase is this brilliant design.

Traditionalists might prefer some chippendale railings like these.

But I have always dreamed of thick solid glass walls with brass accents, which reveal a gorgeous view, of course.
