Architectural details

You never get a second chance to make a first impression, right? The outside of our homes is as important as the inside.

My current labor of love involves spring yard cleanup, replacing plants that didn't make it over our harsh winter and building a pool yard fence with my husband, (we bit off way more than we can chew). Outdoor architectural details are always on my mind and I've got some of these ideas on my exterior wish list.

I'd love pergola awning's over my bedroom doors onto the deck, a phenomenal gate to our new fenced pool yard (must be dog secure- this one our Nicky could climb through) and custom made wooden garage doors (price of a new car).  What are you dreaming about for your house this spring?

Wishing you a wonderful week and consistent warm temperatures! We need warmth for our grass seed to grow!

  1. We are in the midst of a major paint job, but the house is looking better already! Good luck with your fence...you are smart to at least try to DIY...we just got an estimate for new gates which was sky high!

Have a lovely week, Nancy! xoxo

  5. I love pergolas - my parents have them over their garage doors and they add so much to the look of their home. And the gate in your pic is to-die-for!

  6. Beautiful images. We built a pergola over our hot tub, and love it. We are in the midst of replacing windows and the house will have to be painted.

  7. Love a pergola awning myself, but nothing big for us this year outdoors since we'll be nesting inside. This weekend, our patio cleaning and setting up begins, wish us luck and good luck with your own fence project !

  10. I honestly have been so focused on getting the inside of my house done I haven't given much thought or effort to the outside. And it needs some attention. One thing I know I want to do is add a little awning over the entry. Black with white piping. Great inspiration Nancy!!

  11. It's crazy how things snowball and the prices keep going up! We will be putting in new garage doors and landscaping our property that's currently being constructed (a day or so away from being permit ready) .. so overwhelming and lots of decisions to make. It's exciting to be doing ANY house upgrades. I'm sure your pool gate will be functional and aesthetically pleasing. So glad spring is hear and the ground is drying out so we get get a little work done! xxleslie

  15. Love your ideas. These little changes can make an ok house into something spectacular. I have been mulling over a few of these myself and I am just caught up on which ones to go with. I feel like if you have too many different architectural details, it becomes crowded. I just need to make a choice to go with.
