What's new

Update: Our new blog link is: www.powellbrower.blogspot.com since we launched our website on www.powellbrower.com .  Sorry for any inconvenience!

We hope you continue to follow along!
The hours I spend on blogs and pinterest have been minimized lately, cause honestly, I am not seeing much that's new and unique these days.  The internet can provide inspiration and you can mimic others style, but to create a look all one's own, creativity has to come from within.
As I get ready to do a lite makeover of my kitchen, my previous plan was white cabinets.  That is all you see these days, and to me, not unique anymore.
This beauty caught my eye.  I have always maintained a love for the integrity of a mix of natural materials. I'd love something like this with new cabinetry, but that is not in the budget at this time.

The funny thing about being a designer is that since the possibilities and ideas are endless, it's hard to pin one down that I think I will be happy with over the next few years. Tricky!  So I try to not be too trendy, but instead put together a mix I haven't seen before. Even I do not know what I will come up with.  I swear, it's much easier to design for clients!

  1. I adore that wood look, I too wish that it was in the budget as I do my kitchen facelift but no such luck! I am doing edgecomb gray and a mossy gray island. I agree that it seems that there is an abundance of the same trend over and over again. I like seeing homes that give you a true idea of who may live there1 xo K

  3. I had a white kitchen for over 25 years...and now it's black beadboard, black cabinets, mirror, stainless, and maple butcher block. I voted to spend my biggest bucks on appliances and used Gladiator tool chests for and island and baking center and chrome Metro shelving for my cookware. I LOVE my new kitchen. I would not have had the imagination to have done this 25 years ago. Now it's the not huge budget, love of cooking, over 40 years of collecting beautiful tools that I have a very practical, useable, and, to me, lovely place to work. Follow your heart!

  4. I love the look of white - but I've heard more than once the cabinets don't wear well. They get dirty and the oils from hands turn the colors. A good warranty will take care of most of that, but such a hassle! I think you're right - white is everywhere and not unique anymore. Good thing I don't have it in my budget to do any kitchen changes right now because I'd never make up my mind with what to do! A kitchen is so much more long-term than other rooms in the house, such a bigger commitment. Good luck! Let us know what you do!

  8. Very pretty inspiration! I love so many different looks as well but I am actually going for the white kitchen in my house! I had worn out 90's oak for years and have always dreamed of a white kitchen. The kitchen isn't even complete yet and I already feel happy every time I walk in there. I guess that's all that matters in the end!

  9. Nancy, such a great picture you've found for inspiration. I've found over time that I am happiest with interiors that are clean, classic and use authentic, natural materials in interesting ways. The excitement is created with original art, books, flowers and friends, and that allows my tastes and interests to develop naturally over time without having to completely re-decorate my house every few years. The best inspiration for me is to look at houses that have stood the test of time yet the interiors still feel fresh and alive. It is a testament to your creativity that you're having a hard time deciding! The most creative people can imagine living in so many different ways, it's hard to decide. :) xo, N.G.

  11. I agree about white kitchen cabinets. That said I just put some in some in my kitchen remodel from IKEA. lol. The design and white fits with the house. I added black granite countertops and a black granite herringbone tile backsplash and black pulls. Looks good and I think it won't date. Fingers crossed.
