Treats for your pets this holiday

Last week Bethany and I spent an evening baking treats to take to the local animal shelter.  This recipe proved to be very successful and Gibbs approved!  It's so easy.

King Arthur's Best of Breed Dog Biscuits

  • 2 cups King Arthur White Whole Wheat Flour or Premium Whole Wheat Flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats, regular or quick
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley or 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/2 cup Baker's Special Dry Milk or nonfat dry milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup peanut butter, crunchy or plain
  • 1/2 cup + 1 tablespoon cold water, enough to make a cohesive dough
  •  Mix together the flour, oats, parsley, dried milk, and salt.
  • Add the eggs and peanut butter, stirring to combine; the mixture will be crumbly.
  • Add enough water to bring the dough together
  • roll out the dough and cut with cookie cutter to a depth of about 1/4"
  • Bake at 300 degrees for 40-60 mins til dark golden brown- they will be dry and crunchy when cool.

With the results of extraordinary love and a 'forever' home, Bethany's beagle Winston (see his facebook page) is a rescue success story that has enriched our lives a hundred fold and makes me appreciate animal shelters and rescue groups even more than ever before. Please remember these angels at Christmas and donate to your local rescue groups and animal shelters.
Bethany rescued my pony Thomas and brought him to our home Christmas eve in 2000.  She is a very special animal advocate and angel!
Some great ideas (besides home baked treats) are the phenomenal Bark Box
fabulous Etsy pet gift sites ,like this cute leash from Green Bean Dog,
51 Gifts for Dogs and Dog Lovers, or the brilliant PetziConnect where you can watch a live feed of your pet from your iphone while away--it even gives them a treat!
So many of our readers are pet lovers and have reached out to us, for which we are thankful.  Remember your pets this holiday and keep them safe and warm, and loved all winter long!
