Whats on Your Walls?

Leslie with Pillow Love by Le-ka-lia Interiors sent in a fabulous collection of art in her home and a beautiful story about each piece stated in her words below.  Her mother was an artist and had a keen eye for collecting as well.

We both had mothers who suffered from Alzheimers disease and sadly she just lost her mother a few weeks ago.  A beautiful note from Leslie told me of how her in her mother's dresser in her assisted living home was a drawing she had done recently of a woman's face. Her love of art gave her happiness until the end. What a lovely gift she had!

"The dancing asian women painting was purchased by my parents in the 1970's in Honolulu. It was the first original piece of artwork that they ever purchased.  I remember vividly when she brought it home and hung it in our dining room.  I said to her ..."but, the artist didn't finish it!"  Now of course, I appreciate the style and the delicacy of the painting and it makes me smile knowing that I finally appreciate what my mother saw in it all those years ago. The artist's name is Balaz Szabo.  He is still alive and he has a website.  His is a fascinating story."

"The piece above my fireplace was painted by my mom for me.  They are koi fish in the lily pond that is located at the school that I attended in Hawaii."

"The Hawaiian Sugar Cane piece is a silkscreen canvas that my mother purchased at our school Carnival in Hawaii in 1977.  I love how it looks like the sun is shining right on it as it sways in the wind. It hangs above my 'punee' which is the Hawaiian term for a daybed in our tv room."

This is such a beautiful collection Leslie.  We are sorry for the loss of your dear mom and thank you for sharing her art with us.

  1. Yeah, you are featuring my friend, Leslie. She is also an amazing home stager. This art is beautiful. I love the way it is paired with the furniture and of course the pillows. Her mom was such a talented artist. How lucky for her to have these pieces as a beautiful reminder of her mother.
