Today we are featuring art in the home of Raina Cox, from the wonderful blog If the Lamp Shade Fits. She has a B.S. in Interior Design and is a former clothing boutique owner. She has lived in the UK, New Zealand, Santa Barbara, and
now she, her husband and daughter have just moved into a beautiful new mountain home in Colorado. You can see her living room plans here. She is one savvy lady with a 'tude' and it's so fun to see the art in her home. Here are Raina's comments about each piece.

" "Bendy" by British ex-pat/Australian artist Kate Banazi (http://www.katebanazi.com/) hangs to the side of our new bar cabinet, because of course."
"We commissioned this bust of our daughter from a family friend almost two years ago. It sits next to the first drawing The Pea did of her father, my husband. (It's an incredible likeness.)"
"Because we moved just three weeks ago, I haven't found the perfect spot for this pair. I found these two small paintings of actress Lee Remick and actor/comedian Groucho Marx in a tiny antique shop in Lafayette, Indiana more than 15 years ago."
"I have much of my daughter's artwork framed and hanging. This large piece was drawn two years ago and features a lion fish, a really ticked off merman and a sultry mermaid complete with perky "boohees," as my little one calls them."
"My design mentor gave me this papier mache sculpture of a water buffalo nearly 20 years ago. He said he'd bought it on a whim from a New York gallery in the late 1970s. The material is classified ads from The New York Times and makes for fascinating reading."
What a personal and eclectic mix! I just love when someone collects pieces over time and has a story behind each piece. Thank you so much Raina for sending these pictures in! Best of luck nesting in your new home! Make sure you check out her fabulous blog

OMGoodness that water buffalo is awesome! I adore framed children's art so the mermaids are brilliant in my book.

Thanks so much for inviting me to share, Nancy!
ReplyDeleteLove the fun mix and that bust is a true heirloom piece! My fave is the water buffalo, reminds me of home, we call ours Carabao. :-)
ReplyDeleteI love the little Pea's artwork. Kids do the best, uninhibited work.
ReplyDeleteI love how you framed your children's artwork! You have great taste!

I love her! Raina is so smart, I asked her to help me with my blog name change. She really has a grasp for where all of this is headed. It is no surprise her artwork is unique. What a great series.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful collection! Love that you frame and hang your daughter's art!
ReplyDeleteLove The Lamphade's sense of humor and her love for the Pea and her art. Reminds of the Picasso quote, “It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child.”
ReplyDeletefun series, looking forward to more. just realized you were not on my sideboard, just fixed that!
ReplyDeletecheers

Her style reminds me very much of Visual Vamp's.
