Italian Fortune

I was given the wonderful opportunity to accompany my sister to Italy next week for two weeks! I am beyond excited. My son has been twice, but I have never been to Italy.

Rome, Florence and Venice...wish granted, thank you dear sister!  Her traveling companion cancelled at the last minute and she has invited me to take her place.  This is a real dream come true.  I know I'll be seeing the same sites my son saw:

But tell me friends, have you been to these cities and if so, what are the highlights I should see?

I am aware of the touristy sites and art galleries, but what about markets or shopping?

  1. Nancy, this is so exciting. I have been to Rome and Venice, but never Florence. I am excited to see your pictures. The Murano Glass that you will see all over Venice is stunning. The water-boat taxi rides are hilarious, and the pizza is beyond belief. We did the expected things, so I have no new info for you. Safe travels.

  3. So jealous! If I were going to Florence, I'd want to see the Farmiceutica di Santa Maria Novella, a 400-year-old "pharmacy" that makes the most heavenly-scent products; soaps, scents, potpourris and elixirs. I understand it's quite beautiful too. http://www.smnovella.it/?lang=en

I hope you take lots of photos so we can live vicariously.

  6. Nancy...I just was in Venice...delightful as always! I am now in Paris and will be home Wednesday. When do you leave? I would love to email you some suggestions but don't have any of my info here with me. At the very least, go on my blog and search Rome for ideas.

I am SO excited for you!!!

  10. Florence is my favorite! Beautiful museums, fantastic gelato, great walking and exploring and David. There is an outdoor market in town where I did all my Christmas shopping one year. This is a really nice time of year to be there too. Enjoy.
