2013 Trend Predictions

I, for one, couldn't be happier to ring in 2013.  New ideas, designs, trends and of course, a fresh start!  Here are some design trends that I wouldn't mind getting behind!

The return of the colored sofa.  Oxblood?  No.  I'd prefer wine, thank you.

The return of wood kitchen cabinets, within reason of course [Mom].

Full steam ahead on large photographic art and wall murals to take the place of the modern abstract movement pioneered by the likes of Sally King Benedict and Michelle Armas (and bandwagoned on since). I believe that large art will then turn in to total mural love. Though it pains me to say, I'm starting to love some murals, which is totally agaisnt my grain. (Quick backstory, I was once pulled over on the way home from the beach in a little tiny ghost-town for over an hour, and left to stare at a horrifying mural of migrant workers on the side of a building. Mmmrpf). Everything goes - from grisaille whole room murals to large kiddie art on the dining room wall.  We may already be there though.

The stay-putness of neutrals punctuated by saddle-leather accents.  Tally-ho!

The color peach.  More like delicious (in my best Martyn Lawrence Bullard accent) cantelope with black and white accents.  Sign me up!

And, lastly, I personally am hoping beyond hope that chevrons go out with yesterday's trash.  I couldn't care if I saw one ever again.  Oh, and trellis patterns. Sorry to all who still love them.

What's on your trend alert for the New Year??

  8. Totally agree with you on the chevrons! I like the graphic statement but it's been so over done....when you see it on stuff at Wal-Mart you know it's time to move on!

  11. So agree on the chevron and trellis patterns. While I do like them, they have been so overdone that to put just a chevron patterned vase in the powder room looks like you have been shopping at Home Goods and hopped on the trend bandwagon. Sorry if that sounds snobby but there must be a better way to enjoy a trend than to be smothered with it. Loving the warmth of that saddle leather but still enjoy a white kitchen (especially since I just redid mine)
