Out of the mouths of (design) babes

I was thinking the other day of my new life as a design blogger, and the language I've adapted since starting this venture in Nov. 2011.  Would I ever have used these in a sentence pre-blogger days? Probably not.

Words like "swoonworthy, droolworthy, hubs, hubster, vacay, chandy, sneakity peek, DIY'er, serial DIY'er, "chic"everything, zhushing, amaze balls" have eeked out of my mouth, although, not for long. A serial DIY'er sounds pretty scary.  I certainly don't want to sound cliche,or try to be someone I'm not.  Bethany says things like 'totes'(totally) and 'lurve' (love) which are so funny to me; it really makes me feel old.  It is fun to play along though. But there is a new web "slanguage" going around blogland.

In googling the topic there are some good articles about it that speak of words like:

Blogorrhea - unusually high output of articles
Blogathy - I do not want to post today and I do not care about it
Blogstipation - writer’s block for bloggers. Cant think of what to blog about?
Vlogging - Also called video blogging.
Moblogging - Also called moblogs. A blog posted and maintained via mobile phone.

I just want to have fun and enjoy everyone's stories, pictures and musings on the topic of decorating, art and design and meet some like minded people.  It's like this except not in person:

I'm going to keep adding to this list, but tell me what are some amusing words you've heard as bloggers? Let's keep this going!

  2. Yes, our vocabularies do grow in blogland. These are all new to me, so I am missing something. My daughter tries to keep me up too dad, but he is falling behind. Thanks for sharing, Nancy!

  4. I never said "amazeballs" before either! If I say "totes" my kids look at me like I am green so I try to be more old and motherly and say entire words. Hahaha.

  5. I love seeing "hearing" the younger bloggers use these terms ... I feel silly saying them ... the whole blog thing is still so out of my realm! But I love it and love the energy and friendships!! I have had Blogathy a few days here lately!! xoxo

  10. Nancy, I LOVE this! So, I have no problem with others saying these words, but I WILL NOT say amaze balls or hubs. Or most of the others either. I'm in my 40s and would feel quite ridiculous using that language. I love the photo you shared showing what blogging is for you -- so fun!

  11. Guilty as charged for using 'picknickery knick knacks' yesterday on our blog. Afterwards I was like pick.....what but it worked for me.

  12. Very funny! Once in a while, Mark would read my draft posts and he would always comment on the "slanguage". He doesn't get it! I always tell him that's how bloggers talk!

  13. I'm from California. An original Valley Girl. We started butchering language a long time ago. I have no idea what is appropriate. I like accronyms. WTF
