One Room Challenge : Week 2 Update

Happy 4th of July, all!

Here we are at the end of week one and I feel pretty good about the progress we've made on our One Room Challenge

I decided on the paint for the ceiling and the walls.

We hammered it out all day Sunday.  I'm loving the Smoked Oyster by Ben we used on the ceiling; it's one of my favorite chameleon colors - it changes with the light.  It's reading pretty red in this pic, but sans Instagram, it's a medium-gray brown purple.  I'm not going to show you the full ceiling yet, as we have a little surprise detail we added that we're saving for the reveal.

We finalized the textiles for my master bedroom.

I pulled the trigger on this rug.
While feeling quite smug for all the decisions I had made,  and doing the right thing by getting the 8x10 versus the 5x7 rug, panic started to creep in as I stared at the backs of my eyelids last night.  My lovely, albeit crass, bulldog loves nothing more than a good scrub on my bedroom carpet. My new Beni is white.  It's gonna take a beating compliments of Wilma Applesauce ... I should have gone with the zebra cowhide!  My cowhide in the living room is Wilma-proof and can handle whatever she throws at it.  Do I have time to do a switcheroo?

Lastly, I took my large pendant I've been saving for a rainy day to our local lampery (yep, it's a word) and had them hardwire it so I could have my electrician hang it from my ceiling.  As with all rooms in my house, there is no existing over head light so I've slowly had to add them as I finish each room.

What's left:

-order the fabric for the drapes and send it off to our workroom, along with the fabric for the shade.
-recover Wilma's steps (an ottoman) for our bed
-strip paint from antique corbels
-order glass to top the corbels with for a shelf
-decide on new lamp shades
-paint the trim and doors

  1. I'm loving the bedding and pillows. I think you will be ok with that rug just need to work on the dog :)

  2. LOVE the pendant lamp...and I can't wait to see what you have going on the ceiling! It is so amazing how many times we have to consider our pets in the design process too! Just to make you feel better I went ahead with a white couch in our family room even with a dog and two children! :)Happy 4th!

  3. Wow! The bedding is gorgeous. You guys have done so much.

  4. Awesome! The Smoked Oyster is luscious!! I constantly fight the light colors because of my dogs ... but now I just go for it!!!

  5. You got a lot done. I love that rug, no worries! Those lamps are going to look great. This is getting exciting!

  6. Bethany-
Your room is looking amazing. Love the color and the pillows! The headboard look great and the rug, perfect. I understand the dog thing. I am going to RAISE my new puppy different (you know this will stick) when I find the perfect one, lol.
Can't wait to see it all.
Happy 4th to y'all, and thank you for your friendship!

  7. Love everything Bethany! It looks great already! Can't wait!!! Happy 4th!

  8. Nice choices! Love the rug! I make allot of design decisions around my dog too. Perhaps once you put on new bedding, she'll focus on that and not the rug after all...that's how it works around these parts :)

  9. Girlfriend!!! Girlfriend! Loving the progress you've made. The bed looks beyond amazing.

  10. Glad my dog isn't the only one who uses my area rugs for all things gross.....that is why I put off buying a rug!

  11. Looks great! I just gave a new runner to my daughter after one day in my house because of my dog. Oh well! - Beth of Chinoiserie Chic

  12. WOW! Your bedroom is going to be BEAUTIFUL!! It's really not fun to have to be practical and think of the dog as you make decisions. My dog and cat require that I do the same! Everything you've chosen is lovely. I can't wait to see it all completed!

  13. What great progress you made in just a week! LOVE all of the textiles! :)

  14. But we wanna see the ceiling now ;-)!! Just kidding. Looking fabulous already. I love your headboard and textile selections. Happy 4th!

  15. Really love your pattern mix on the bed. It's always one of the toughest things for me to do. You've made it look effortless!

  16. I love that rug! You are really making progress on your room. I can't wait to see the finished project!

  17. I feel like I've been so out of the blogging world for a bit. I've been seeing the progress on instagram but didn't know there was a challenge attached. Loving what you're doing. I'll keep my eyes peeled for the reveal.

  18. Looking awez, B! Personally, I could never spend that much chedda on a rug, knowing what parts the dogs would rub on it! eww. I love it, though!!
