My Lochness Table

I just got my new (old) dining room table set-up and I just love it!

I bought this table base for $25 at Luckett's Store over a year ago.  Have you ever been there?  It's a local staple in the DC area, more on this later!  So when we found this beauty, It was busted up and in need of a serious drink of water.  But I kept seeing visions of greatness when I looked at it - loving how the three bases appear as if they were three sea monsters coming up from the water!  (No one ever said I lacked in the imagination department.)  We experimented with the table this way, and then upside-down.

Every one kept telling me not to put a single dime into restoring it because it was horrific.  There was so much wood filler in the cracks and it was quickly falling apart. But... I happened to think otherwise. Someone loved this piece of furniture one time and poured a lot of heart into the design and carving.  And sometimes you just get so tired of looking at the same ole' things all the time in the stores, so I welcomed its unique design with open arms.

And now, introducing my lovely new table I've aptly named 'Nessy'.

Ta Da!

The guy who did the restoration did an amazing job.  There are three hand-carved cherry legs and he took them apart and put them back together again, but more securely and with a new base.  Then my dear table got the drink of its life compliments of the new stain job.

I just bought a larger glass top for it and am so happy with how it turned out.  I initially wanted a rug under it (probably my cowhide) so the eye can differentiate between where the wood floors stop and the table starts, but for now, I'm enjoying it naked.

Now to replace these big-mistake chairs!

  3. Beautiful job! For $25 there is no way you should have passed that one up. You're right, it wasn't perfect, but I'm sure Nessy is so thankful you rescued her and that you have a great imagination and style - it turned out beautifully.
