bedroom envy

Those of you who follow along on our journies know that we are of fickle blood.  We love anything and everything and change our minds like the wind.  I tend to be very fickle about  my bedroom.  Mom and I have always maintained that most important room in the house is where YOU sleep and is, therefore, the most deserving of your contentment with the decor.  I saw this image recently I started flip flopping all over again.

Let's whiteboard this out to see if I can get it out of my system.

the f word

Mom (and others) often call me fickle.

Finicky Filly

Fickle Pickle

I prefer to think I am always open to new ideas.

But when I was looking back through a folder of clippings I kept for bedroom ideas, I realized I was just that.

Take a walk with me.

I wanted my first apartment bedroom to look like this.

When I was buying my first home, I wanted my bedroom to be either this

or this

When I started getting tired of my bedroom after the One Room Challenge, I wanted to shape it into this.

I make zero sense.  None of these images even have a common ground.  I am all over the map!

I have always been drawn to a certain type of bedroom.  Say, like my my favoritest one ever, in It's Complicated. But I've come to realize my room as it is now looks nothing like these rooms.

I like the flax and wood look.

Alot.

This would be a good compromise between coiffed and tailored and a bit more linen-y.

Ok, so I am finicky.  I just confirmed that I would like a do-over on my room!

I like a little bit of global in my room. But not like Cher likes it.  Did you ever see her home in Architectural Digest a few years ago.  It's etched in my mind forever.  I can't think of Moroccan decor without thinking of Cher.

On a lighter note - what are you doing this weekend?  We have our second dog show with Seamus this weekend and so far, he was under the weather today, so we're hoping he turns the corner.  He may have pre-show jitters.  Wish us luck!

What your bed says about you

I have always loved the bedding at Serena & Lily.  They have a feature on their site where you can design your own bed (with their products of course) and interchange duvets, sheets, pillows, blankets, etc.  Very clever and a wonderful preview if you are looking to purchase some of their goods.  They have 10 style Gurus showcasing how they like to make their beds...check it out!

So it begs the question - do you prefer lots of color or neutrals?

Beth Webb has designed the perfect bedding (above), in my opinion.  I am currently favoring neutral outerwear for bedding, like a duvet in white, and adding pops of color in the bedskirt and/or pillows. I also love monograms!

Here are some colorful options in bedroom decor.

But for me, it always comes right back to the neutral bedding.

This brings to mind the styling of the bed linens. It seems like there is no ideal style.  One designer spoke of the perfect pillow arrangement on a king size bed being 3 Euro shams, 2 King pillows, 2 Standard pillows and 2 throw pillows. It depends on how many layers you want though, I suppose.  As well as your desired softness, comfort and how many pillows the people in your bed require.  I do love good sheets, a matelasse cover, a folded duvet at the end of the bed, a simple bedskirt and a luxe look and feeling.

How do you prefer your master bed to be styled: sophisticated, simple, neutral, frilly, colorful, tons of pillows, solids, patterns ?  I think these answers give a hint into your personality!

Sleep tight.
