Field trip to Lucketts

It was a beautiful Saturday at the Lucketts Design House. My friend, the lovely Kerry, of Design du Monde, and I toured the buildings and grounds, then had a fantastic lunch at the Wine Kitchen in old town Leesburg,Va.

The Design House was beautifully staged with rooms filled with belgian linen covered antiques, painted and refurbished case goods and lovely lighting.

These draperies were gray silk velvet topped with burlap, an interesting juxtaposition of textures.

There was a lot of equestrian monochromatic art.

This chair was reupholstered and finished with furniture TACKS, not 'nailhead' trim - it looked great.

This queen sized bed was so unique and spectacular. It almost looked as if they built a frame between two sofas.  There were exposed wood and nailheads, burlap, linen and heavily textured upholstery fabrics,

a design similar to the RH deconstructed collection.

It was for sale for $1250.00, and would make the perfect statement piece in just the right bedroom.

This desk was very interesting, and we loved the adjustable swivel bar stools (another thing I grew up with).

Numerous outdoor buildings housed multi- dealers wares.

This years' popular accessory was the metal alphabet letter, in all sizes.

I loved this mirrored headboard on the left, the stadium seats and that fantastic arched antique mirror. ( I believe it was $595.00, and over 6' tall!)

I've seen a lot of busts and heads used by decorators lately, but these were gigantic stone pieces out in their gardens.  They weighed 100's of pounds.

The general store and the Beekeeper's Cottage were filled with vintage finds, clothing, jewelry, and  familiar memories of my childhood.  Kerry and I laughed at the same things our moms had in our homes growing up.  I may regret passing up a beautiful tall, metal, arched mirror with a circular feature in the design.  I need something unique in my foyer to replace a picture, and a mirror is the ticket, but that $595.00 price tag wasn't.

I did pick up this loot all for under $30.00:

I am regretting not picking this up for $65.00 since my dad wrote on one daily:

What we couldn't do with unlimited funds, right? As I get older, memorable things from my childhood are becoming more important, and I want to incorporate them into my home more.  Too bad I didn't feel that way when my parents estates were settled, I must sadly say.  I didn't want to fight over anything with my siblings, so I let them have most of it.

I hope you get to a fair like this in the upcoming fall days. Have a great week.

Treasure Hunters bring your pocketbooks

If you live anywhere near Leesburg, VA, and believe me 2 hours away is not too far to drive for a sale this great, there is a fantastic event at the Old Luckett Store August 31-Sept. 3rd.

The Old Lucketts Store Blog

I love their new tagline of Vintage Hip!

The Old Lucketts Store is where we have gotten many a unique find, from Bethany's Lochness table to antique corbels in her big ORC reveal.

They have a monthly interior design showcase where everything in the house is for sale.   Once a year they have a huge Ground Hog Day sale with steep discounts.  This sale IS GOING TO HAPPEN AGAIN this LABOR DAY WEEKEND!  The grounds feature a salvage yard with tons of old doors, windows, shutters, and antiques, while indoors there are a multitude of antique dealers and treasures.

Another new offering at the store is Miss Mustard Seed's new line of milk paint, which I am dying to try.  She is an antique dealer at Lucketts Store, and has a fabulous and informative blog.

Her milk paint line is launching August 30th! Congratulations Marion!

Hope to run into some of you this weekend! If you are going email me and maybe we can meet!  Enjoy the hunt!
