Our friend Vel from Life & Home 2102 asked me after Monday's post on the Principles of Design to look at her room and tell her if it has rhythm.
This is a great example of rhythm!
Rhythm in art and design is achieved through repetition of line, form or color to guide the eye around the room. In the above photo of Vel's living room, there is repetition in the linear chair fabric, the color blue in the pillows, the pattern in the carpet, the lines, form and color of the window wall, and the repetition of the forms of the lamp shades.
I loved answering Vel's question as it pertained to her living room. If you have a question feel free to email us a picture and your question to info@ powellbrower.com and we will be happy to answer you.
I see what you mean about rhythm - great example and something I'd have a hard time seeing.
ReplyDeleteDo you give advice on couch throw pillows (color/pattern choice)??! Currently the bane of my existence...
Kristen, I'd be happy to answer your question. Please email me the particulars!

ReplyDeleteOMG, thank you so much for answering my question Nancy and using my room ( I never knew it had rhythm) as an example! I'm so flattered, and this is a great lesson learned for me! Thanks again and have a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post, Nancy! Very informative. I'm so glad Vel asked about rhythm, and even more delighted you were able to elaborate on this principle with Vel's fabulous living room. Vel's room really is wonderful. So open, airy yet warm. I can picture her family gathering there. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteThanks Nancy - will be coming to you more for your opinion now that you asked!!! xo great observation.
ReplyDeletelike snapping to the beat of a drum
ReplyDeleteOkay so maybe this is what rooms that aren't working for me in my house are lacking. Thank you for this lesson - keep them coming! I need all the help I can get!
