To start making this wall carving into a light, my husband built a frame around it out of 1 x 3's to set it away from the wall.
I stained the 1"x 3" frame to closely match the carved panel, and also saturated the antique carving with tung oil to bring it back to life (using a toothbrush in all the crevasses).
Then I took some rope lighting (that I never found a use for) and secured it to the frame with large brads.
Lighted, it creates a lovely candle-like ambiance in the dining room.
Have you made anything come to life by adding light?
