What do paper, wood and carpet have in common?

What prompted me to write about unusual tile products was Alexa Hampton's paper tiled wall in the 2014 Kips Bay Decorator Show House shown in our last post.  I began to delve deeper into paper tiles which basically can be made from any image, printed on paper and adhered to a wall.  Think of the unlimited unique, one-of-a-kind possibilities! Then there is 3-D paper tile and many more examples like these:

Wood tiles are becoming more available and creative. Ann Sacks has some beauties.  You can get handpainted and custom wood tiles from Mirth Studios.

Carpet tiles have been around a while. They can be temporary, waterproof, applied on a plastic tray to suspend off the floor in case you have a moisture issue, and we can't forget that one square can easily be replaced in the event of damage. Think about other applications such as on a wall or ceiling!

I hope you have a great start to September.
We are in the 'hunting and gathering' (aka shopping) phase of a client's master bedroom project at the moment, but always thinking of new applications of conventional materials and living inspired.

  4. I love Alexas wall tiles that room was absolutely fabulous at Kips bay with those moroccan inspired tiles on the wall. Tiles make it seem so much less intimidating to cover a wall yourself! Great Post!
