Clean slate

Aren't we fortunate to have the slate wiped clean each year and be able to start fresh after January 1 each year? I guess this is more a state of mind than any magical happening, but still, I'm all in.  I love to purge after all the holiday decorating and empty my spaces of all accessories, and re-design it with a fresh new outlook.

Many of us are in the same club; rearranging and redecorating whenever the opportunity presents itself, that's why we band together.   I do not like things stagnant in my own home and like to change things up from time to time.

Here is my 2013 mantle prior to Christmas:

and here is the 2014.01 version:

I realized I have no mirror in this room, which is one of my must-haves, so I incorporated this one for right now. I'm on the hunt for a much larger antique mirror with some character. I would actually like to panel the entire wall with plate glass mirror. I did a wall like that in a former home and it looked 10x it's size and was amazing.

These mantels are perfectly understated, yet impacting. I like that.

Always transforming, always looking for inspiration to create something unique. After all the busi-ness of the holidays, I'm into simplifying at the moment. We'll see how long that lasts.  How about you?

  7. Oh yes, the clean slate after the holidays always inspires me, I'm tweaking my living room right now too and adding a lot of clear pieces and blue & white! Love the way your mantle is looking on IG right now though ;-)

  9. YES....always transforming, indeed! Our homes reflect our moods and I believe in changing my mantle according to not only the season, but what I am feeling. One spring, it may be graced by a small oil painting, another spring, a vase with spring flowers. But it is always fun to change! And I like how you made subtle changes to get a big effect!

Nancy, thank you so much for coming over to leave a comment today! Thank you for being a part of Blogland...and you are right; there is a need to connect with other kindreds and share KINDNESS! Love to you, Anita

Yes, starting with a clean slate and doing a little rearranging is fun after the holiday decor is put away. I am still working on my mantle and creating a winter ambiance in my home.
