Bethany's House Tour

Today we are sharing our two cents over at Kerry Steele's Virtual Showhouse. Kerry asked 4 designers to weigh in this week with their dream rooms and we had the opportunity to do both a teen's room and a nursery. Come check us out!

Mom and I have had some down time between client projects lately so we've been working on getting some of our work professionally photographed.  We all know the saga of our poor picture taking skills, so we had to employ the help of a professional.  And since your home is your masterpiece, errr, more like ever-changing experiment, we decided to document the current set-up with our favorite photographer, Dancer Burns.

I live in a teeny tiny cabin and without the help of our super tall ceilings, we might feel like we've caving in on each other.  I'm sure people always wonder why I have so many mirrors around my house (they totally think I'm vain) - we used reflective surfaces just about every where we could to help bounce the light around.

My 'dining room' is essentially just a little niche off the side of my living room.  I love to look at the busy hallway pattern that Mom and I hand-painted last year while we eat.  You remember 'Nessy, my table, dontcha?  And Mom recently made a slipcover out of drop cloths for the dining bench / settee - she's so handy!

This was just about as much as I was willing to show of my tiny galley kitchen. :)

I don't know if I ever showed any pictures of our bathroom after my husband recently re-did it but here it is.  You can't see in detail, but he did white subway tile to the ceiling and slate floors in a brick pattern. I went for an almost-black on the walls, called Baby Black Seal (B.Moore) and I love how it is the perfect backdrop for art work.  Who woulda thought my bathroom would be the best art gallery? Mom and I did our own version of 'Best in Show' last year on the ceiling.  Talk about neck problems...

Here's where the real magic happens - the office!  There's no good way to show you all of it, because it's teeny too.  Just like all of my spaces :)

Our guest room has a signature punch of moodiness.  We used Old Navy (B.Moore) on the wall here.  Really makes the lamps pop!

And this guy needs no introduction since you all know it from the One Room Challenge.

That's it for now.  I hate accent walls (minus the ceiling, because I love ceiling treatments) so I've been pondering painting the guest room completely navy.  Then I stop myself because I worry that when we sell the house, I'll have a lot of painting to do to get it back to white walls.  Then again, when do I ever stick with anything for very long?  They'll probably be different in a year.  Like that hallway - that I'm dying to paint over.

Happy Friday all!

-Bethany

  1. Wow, it is so lovely. Each room has a unique interesting look. You have so many really great pieces. I never get tired of reading about how someone wants to change something. I do the same thing. These pictures are really beautiful. Great photographer. I think your guest room is my favorite, but that might change.

  3. Love it! Life is too short to live in a house that you design for the next person, so paint away.

  4. You've done a fabulous job my friend! I love the guest room - it feels like that whole wall is the headboard, it doesn't feel like an accent wall at all. :) And the settee in the dining room turned out so great, love it! ANd I think our bathrooms are about the same size. :) I've been contemplating painting it something dark as well so its good to hear you are happy with it. Super job ladies!

  14. Bethany, Hi. Your home looks beautiful. Love all the choices you made. I am dying to know the name of the gold rectangular lantern in your office. Is the Shades of Light one that was discontinued? If you have time - can you shoot me an email? I need to find a light fixture to hang over our new stairwell to the lower level. Hope you have great weekend. Michele

  25. Bethany, your house is so beautiful, I thought these pics might be inspiration photos from magazines!! I am about to paint my whole master bedroom navy, and can't wait. My last master was chocolate brown and I adored the cavelike, dramatic feel to it. I will have to check out that BM Old Navy you used - it looks perfect! (I have 4 paint swatches on the wall so far and still can't decide!)
