Mural of the story

Historically, I've never liked murals.

I'm sorry to offend.  It's a personal opinion and preference and my own Mom will be first to pipe up, considering she's a professional mural painter.  Oops.  But she does do great work, despite my distaste for the medium itself.

On the contrary, I've found myself liking a couple murals lately.  Maybe it's that whole coming of age thing and tastes maturing?  Thirty is doing something to me and I'm not sure I like it...

I've found so many ways to justify why I like these specimens in my head, but truthfully they are nothing more than great murals.

And these budget friendly options are so appealing!  I've been loving Lulie Wallace and this is an awesome way to say it loud and proud!

This Anthro fave covers 60 sq. feet and looks so similar to the bedroom mural in the first pic above!

And PB hits hit home with this map.

And at this point, I'm starting to wonder where large art ends and murals begin.

  1. I am drawn to these and can't really explain why. mostly, it's the black and white or the sepia tones that grab me in a mural. great post. donna

  2. The second to last one gives new meaning to "the elephant in the room"! I generally don't like murals unless they are handpainted landscapes. I think the huge fall foliage photo murals of the 70s turned me off.

  3. I love these images, and I am so for the large paintings. I am also in love with Italian pieces, and I also love tapestries.
Thank you for sharing so much gorgeousness!
    Happy Friday.

  5. I too am a mural artist and interestingly enough have never painted murals in my own home...with the exception of my entry at 822..but it is so faint you can barely see it. Hang in on 30..it just gets better!

  6. Murals can be done in so many different themes and subject matter. They can make quite a bold statement and have a great impact. I love the maps and that elephant is quite amazing, too.

  7. I like murals that are scenes because they add the illusion of space. My favorites are the grisaille ones like the Anthro one although I noticed there were some complaints about the quality of theirs. Up close I guess it looks bad. I'd love to try painting one like that.

  8. I like the London map mural in the kitchen! I'm usually drawn to colors but I'm liking the black and white better.

  9. I'm not sure if I'd have the guts to put one in my home but I'm tempted with the Anthro one! Have a great weekend!

  11. I love these! I know what you mean about not liking murals Bethany, gone are the days though when murals looked more like a kids artwork all blown-up, these murals are perfect examples of how it has evolved! love the maps and that blue mountain range behind that bed - oh, my, fabulous!
