Cubby, for lack of a better word

This wooden wall "cubby" has housed many collections over the last 15 years. Of late it has become a catch-all with assorted blue and white ceramics, porcelains, candle holders, etc.  Bethany suggested I showcase some silver and consolidate the look into one theme, instead of a mishmash of objects.  A quick and easy challenge! Love those.

This is the only before picture I could find:

This was before my first room makeover for the One Room Challenge, then called Spring Into Action, April 2012.

I played around ( at night) with some silver pieces.

Then I had to clean all the silver and found a super easy recipe:

I didn't want to commit to painting the backs of each cubby, so I cut peacock colored paper from Michael's and used rubber cement to attach it to the wood.

I didn't quite have enough small pieces to fill each  space so I Rub N Buff'ed a black clock until I could add some more silver pieces:

I found some new small silver pieces while antiquing yesterday with my friend Kerry from Design du Monde  so my collection is complete!

We had more fun having lunch and trying on vintage hats while snooping in every shop in  Old Town Fredericksburg. She's a doll.

Hope you get into some fun today.

Nancy

  4. Love your polished recipe! I've got an old tea set from my grandmother that I hate to bring out because to polish it is the devil. This is great! And I love your idea to make the backs blue like your wall. Really makes the beautiful silver pop. Love it.

  6. Yes, Rub and Buff can do miracles! I had one problem, but discovered it was a "bad" tube. It's great for small items. I'm going to try it on the base and legs of our redo, for the third time, of our cocktail table!!!! It's also great for accenting. A little hard to control, it goes on very quickly and spreads....

  8. Your cubby (and that's what I would call it too) looks so sophisticated now. I love the unity of all your silver pieces, especially against that gorgeous peacock blue! Good job, Nancy!

  12. Very cool idea! The silver pieces really pop against the blue background. I really love it :) To break it up and add a twist, maybe you can put two pieces here and there....so it is not all one piece per cubby. Hope you don't mind me saying....

    1. That is my dear old Trooper that we lost in 2010. He was 115 lbs, which was our fault, but he would eat literally everything that wasn't nailed down. Now we have a shih tzu that I inherited from my mom who is a loyal companion ( plus 2 horses, oh and 2 cats).
