For her One Room Challenge we made a new king headboard shown here.
Now it was time to cut this old one down to accommodate her queen size guest bed. We took a cordless circular saw (quite possibly the coolest tool on earth) and cut 8" off either side. The difference in a king size width (76") and a queen (60") is 16". We screwed the cut lengths ,which included the legs, on the back of the plywood. We reused all materials and didn't have to get anything new, except the fabric.
Bethany got 2 yards of this 1"navy buffalo check for $4.75 yd.
Ta Da! This is so cute and will be a bold addition to her guest room. We didn't even cover the back of the headboard since we know it's only temporary with the way we change our tastes!
If you want to make a headboard you will need:
- a sheet of 3/8" plywood
- jigsaw or circular saw to cut out the shape you want
- staple gun ( we invested in an electric one, and boy does that make a difference!)
- foam ( we used egg carton mattress covers from WalMart-so inexpensive!)
- fabric to cover the foam and make a taught, smooth surface under your fabric. (We used a thin inexpensive blanket at Wal-Mart on sale for under $10)
- fabric to cover the headboard
It's really not hard, so hope you give it a try!
