One of the things we found most useful was her before and after examples. So I've been going around my house taking pictures and editing them with her suggestions in mind. I have a Mac and have only used iPhoto editing previously. But being a loyal follower of Camille's has introduced us to other sites like PicMonkey that we are looking forward to trying.
Before:
After:
Before:
After:
Before:
After:
- take corners of a room and vignettes, rather than the whole space
- hold your camera at 90 degrees to the subject and don't shoot from higher than the subject
- use natural light during the optimum time of day,and do not turn on the interior lights
- do not use a flash
- display the largest pictures you can
And then, as if to put us to shame, my son Michael was just playing around today and took this beautiful shot. Makes us realize we still need some work. And that 90 degree angle thing is KEY!
Thanks Camille, and it sure does take a lot of practice and a ton of pictures to get a good shot! Off to try some more...

Great tips. What did you do in PicMonkey? I like to use that one.
ReplyDeleteI haven't used PicMonkey yet, but I clearly need to check it out. I edited in iPhoto on my Mac.
DeleteLooks good. I need practice too. I have such a hard time with light.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing. I have to go back to the original post too.
ReplyDeleteA great image makes all of the difference.
Happy Wednesday.

First, I don't remember ever seeing these photos of your beautiful room before ~ love your style! Camille's tips are my favorite, I try to keep them in mind when shooting, too.
ReplyDeletePicMonkey is the best and I love Camille! She's a huge help and so very sweet :) Great pics ladies!
ReplyDeleteNancy, maybe the sun is in my eyes...I had to really study the after to see much difference...so you must be doing something pretty alright.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean though...when I take photos here at 822 they never look as good (to me) as it looks in person. I can't quite seem to capture "that look" that I see in so many blogs..including YOURS.
I will try these tips for sure!
Thanks for sharing the tips! I'm going to try them out. Your room looks great!
ReplyDeleteFun and fresh, love the pillows! I nominated your blog for a Liebster Award, for a blog that has less than 200 followers but whose content is fantastic and deserves to be showcased!
ReplyDeleteKeep up the great work,

Its amazing what a good photograph can do....wonders!! Sometimes its a little scary actually because it could potentially look even better than the real thing. So necessary for marketing and spreading the word....during this internet age its a must. So kudos to you for practicing!
ReplyDeleteThese are such great tips!! I need to get better at taking photos. I'm like you and have only used the editing stuff on iPhoto. Hoping to get Photoshop at some point. Next time I photograph something I'll pay attention to the angle of my camera and I won't hold it so high up!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips! Your home looks lovely, the pillows are my favorite!

Great tips. The photo of the pillows on the sofa was the only one I really could distinguish the difference. (My bad eye?) Pictures are difficult to get right...always struggling. Thanks for the post.
ReplyDeleteAmazing....will try and remember all the tips...thanks!
ReplyDeleteNot only do the photos look great, your house does too! Wow. I appreciate the mention! So sweet of you guys. :)
